The Dynamics of Land Systems (DLS) model is developed specifically for simulating the dynamics of land use/cover patterns. It is a collection of application programs, which simulates the structural changes and pattern succession of terrestrial ecosystem. The DLS model has the restriction theory of the presence of land use type as its theoretical basis. It simulates the macroscopic pattern succession of the terrestrial systems by classifying and measuring the effects of driving factors on the basis of spatial analysis, predicting the probabilities of different land-use types, and incorporating the distribution probability of different land-use types at the pixel level to implement the spatial allocation of area change of land.
